STEM Alumnae Inspire

Each March in the Senior School, we put together a packed week of Lunchbox Lectures comprising alumnae science speakers to celebrate British Science Week.

General

We aim to put together a varied programme of alumnae visitors from across the STEM sector to showcase the many different opportunities on offer in this area and for our students to be able to meet with them and ask them questions face to face. Encouraged by the feedback we have received over the years we feel this celebration of British Science Week helps enrich our already outstanding careers provision, but also helps demystify and shine a light on some areas that students are less familiar with.

Unsurprisingly, technology was a common theme this year and increasingly our visitors talked about the use of AI in the STEM sphere and how this is transforming existing roles as well as creating new opportunities for the future. It was really valuable for our students to discuss this with our speakers and to listen to a range of perspectives on an increasingly pertinent subject.

We give a huge thanks to our wonderful alumnae speakers who provided their real life stories and left a huge impact on their young audiences: Isabella Chant (BGS 2019) working as an Ecologist, Kate Pilling (DAHS 2005) working in Pharmaceutical Affairs, Lauren Pascoe an Innovation Scientist (BGS 2015), Keziah Olu-Joseph an aspiring Architect (BGS 2019/2021) and Natasha Cooke (BGS 2019) studying for her PhD.

We are already looking ahead to next year. If you are interested in perhaps getting involved, or one of our other careers inspired events, please get in touch: alumnae@bedfordgirlsschool.co.uk
